Job Description

A well established Hospital Group is seeking to employ an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a 12 month Contract.  The ideal candidate will need to meet the following criteria:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Nursing Science
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
  • MUST be a Registered Nurse
  • Experience in the relevant field of nursing advantageous
  • A post graduate qualification within the specific discipline would be advantageous (Orthopedic Trained, PALS, Advanced Midwifery, ATLS)
  • Flexible in working hours / shift work
  • The ability to communicate well at all levels
  • The ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • The ability to develop using collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goals
  • The ability to actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals
  • The ability to identify and understand issues, problems and opportunities in order to take appropriate action
  • The ability to plan and organise work for self and others to ensure efficient completion
  • The ability to produce work of a high quality standard by accurately checking processes and tasks

Key Work Output and Accountability:

  • Patient care and counseling
  • Performs rostered weekend duties / emergency relief on call duties and associated tasks
  • Provides safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment in an economical manner
  • Co-operates and collaborates with other hospital departments to provide quality patient care
  • Liaises with ward manager on matters relating to patient care
  • Keeps accurate records at all times
  • Required to serve on relevant committees within the department
  • Supervises and evaluates quality of patient care through patient rounds
  • communicates with patient and family regarding patient care and informs Unit Manager of patient care problems
  • Assists with the coaching of junior staff within the Unit

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR
  • Projects a positive professional image
  • Promotes and maintains good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues and Doctors
  • Mentoring and supervision of junior healthcare providers and support staff
  • Facilitation of learning environment
  • Keep abreast of current research in their discipline
  • Participate in staff development and maximising performance

Administration:

  • Manage acuity and skill mix to ensure appropriate level of care.
  • Compliance with documentation policy
  • Ongoing audit of health records to ensure compliance
  • Ensures all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately

Risk Management:

  • Maintains a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards
  • Adheres to the Company Resuscitation and Reanimation Policy
  • Adheres to the Company medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles
  • Maintains a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act
  • Reports and acts upon potential / actual risks identified
  • Responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment
  • Reports equipment needing repair or replacement
  • Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
